ISLAMABAD, Oct 9 (Online): : Supreme Court (SC) has granted bail to former President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday in Nawab Akber Bugti assassination case.
A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Musheer Aalam, heard a plea seeking release of Pervez Musharraf on bail.
The bench inquired from Additional Prosecutor General Balochistan Tahir Khattak as to what evidences have been gathered against Musharraf. Where all the accused met to hatch a conspiracy to kill Bugti? Had anyone witnessed Musharraf or his accomplices conspiring against Bugti?
Tahir Khattak told the court that statements of co-accused have been recorded which reveal that Musharraf ordered the action against Bugti whose house was bombed, adding that a CD recording in this regard is also available.
“This is why Bugti moved to mountains where he was killed on the directives of Musharraf,†Khattak further said.
The bench then observed that no substantial evidence was made available to reject Musharraf’s bail plea. “This is a case of criminal conspiracy for which solid evidences are required, and due to their unavailability, there is no justification for rejection of the bail plea.â€
The court later accepted the bail plea against two security bonds of Rs. 1 million each.
The court had summoned Jamil Bugti, a son of Nawab Akbar Bugti, who is a complainant in the case, but he did not turn up in today’s hearing.
Musharraf's lawyer, Ibrahim Satti told the court that his client was on judicial remand for last six and half months. He further said that some 45 life threats have been given to Pervez Musharraf who has been put under house arrest at his Chak Shahzad farmhouse in Islamabad.
Later talking to media Counsel of the former president Pervez Musharraf, Ahmed Raza Kasuri, said on Wednesday that his client is a free citizen and can travel to abroad after being granted bail in Bugti murder case.
“It has been proved that all cases against him were concocted. The former president is a free citizen who can now move to Dubai to meet his ailing mother,†said Kasuri who is representing the former army chief in Bugi case, and a central leader of Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
