7000 tonnes animals waste, offal removed during Eid-ul-Azha holidays

RAWALPINDI, Oct 18 (APP): District Solid Waste Management removed
7000 tonnes animals waste from city areas here during three days of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to District Officer, Solid Waste Management (SWM) Dr.
Mazhar, a comprehensive cleanliness plan in accordance with the policy
of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was chalked out for Eid-ul-Azha to get rid of entrails of animals under which 1553 sanitary
workers worked day and night during Eid holidays with 65 vehicles.
He said, the drivers and loaders shifted animals waste to transfer
station from where the animal waste was further shifted to landfill site, Losar on dumpers.
He informed that he along with Executive District Officer, Municipal
Service (MS) Raja Zaheer ud Din and additional District Officer (SWM) Inam ul Haq visited several city areas and supervised the entire operation.
He said, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Khalid Masood Chaudhary
and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Sajjad Zafar also
visited the city and inspected the cleanliness work. The Commissioner,
DCO and the citizens have appreciated the performance of the department.
Maximum available resources were utilized to fulfill the task during
Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
Dr. Mazhar said a large number of hand carts were used to remove
garbage and offal from all city areas.
Rawal town was divided into four sectors to make cleanliness
arrangements effective while a control room was set up in the
office of District Officer, Solid Waste Management. A helpline was also established. All the four sectors worked under the control room.
The District Officer informed that the solid waste management
department of the city district government had cancelled Eid holidays of
the sanitary workers and officials of the department to ensure cleanliness during the Eid days.
Dr. Mazhar said that banners to spread awareness were displayed
at all main points of the city in this regard which had phone numbers of
the relevant officers with their names.
Collection points were established for the convenience of the
public at Union Council level, he informed.
He said after completion of the cleanliness task and removal of
offal, all collection points and other areas were cleaned properly and sprayed.
