NAB takes notice of purchase of armored vehicle for governor SBP

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI, Oct 26 (Online): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken notice of matter of purchasing bullet proof vehicle worth Rs 40 million for governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) without approval from Prime Minister (PM)..

Media reports said this case can be converted into corruption reference against the dual nationality holder governor SBP Yasin Anwar.

Yasin Anwar ordered for purchasing bullet proof armored vehicle valuing Rs 40 million declaring it part of package. The decision to purchase armored vehicle was taken without seeking approval from PM and approval from ministry of finance was obtained through e-mail.

Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) while identifying this irregularity in a letter to SBP said that PEPRA rules have been infringed up in placing the order for this vehicle.

When it was tried to ascertain stand point of SBP on this matter, the spokesperson of central bank said there is no substance in such matters and no reply is given in such matters.

NAB has however confirmed that it has sought explanation from SBP and Finance Ministry in this matter.

NAB has inquired under whose permission the decision to purchase the vehicle was taken. The vehicle has been imported and it has reached Pakistan but the car dealer stands parked in trouble as concerned quarter has refused to accept it.
