PPP Govt spent Rs 44 billion on railways but in vain

Islamabad, September 15 (Online): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)’s government during its last five year tenure has spent Rs 43.986 billion on repair and maintenance of railways locomotives and wagons, but the condition of Pakistan Railways had been deteriorated instead of improvement.

The sources told ONLINE that during last government, Ministry of Railways has incurred Rs 15.88 billion on the repair of railway engines, Rs 7.45 billion on wagons and Rs 21.50 billion on the upgrading of railways tracks.

However, despite the huge investment, the financial state of affairs in the organization become so much poor that it had even not a single penny to pay the salaries of the employees, and railways had to stop the payment of pension to its retired staff.
