PESHAWAR, September 15 (Online): The proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the stunning attack that Sunday killed three Pakistan army officials including two officers in Upper Dir region.
According to media reports, TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told media that the bomb attack was carried out by TTP Swat chapter and the umbrella organization accepted the responsibility for the killings of senior military officers including a Major General and a Lt Colonel.
Talking to private TV channel from an undisclosed location, the TTP spokesman said that the militant outfit held a meeting of ‘Shura’ (central decision making body), to consider Islamabad’s talks offer.
Shahid called for troops pull out from insurgency stricken areas and release the prisoners before holding negotiations.
He said that the government following talks in the past betrayed the militants and they were wary of entering agreement with the incumbent setup this time around.
The TTP spokesman said that the government had not made any formal contact with the militants so far.
It is significant to mention that the assassination of military officials could be seen as major blow to government's ongoing efforts to end the insurgency in the country.
