Minimum temperature slashes to minus 13 in Quetta

QUETTA Dec 30 (PPI): Quettaites experienced coldest night when persisting cold wave slashed temperature to minus 12.5 (-13) Celsius in the Valley Monday. Maximum (day’s) temperature recorded today was 0.5 Celsius.
According to details cold winds blew across the valley breaking 30 year record of cold. As a result minimum temperature fell to record minus 17 Celsius in Ziarat, Khanozai, Kan Mehterzai, Toba Achakzai, Toba Kakari. In Kalat temperature felt o minus 15 Celsius. In Quetta weather remained hazy during the day. Cold winds continued to lash at 30 Km per hour. Cold winds forced people to remain confined at houses. Water freezed in taps and overhead water tanks creating severe problems for the people particularly housewives.
Water also freezed at famous picnic spot Hanna Lake and Spin Karez on the outskirts of Quetta.
Visibility in Quetta valley was also very poor. It was about 2 to 2.5 Kilometres as hazy weather prevailed during the day.
Supply of Sui gas in Ziarat and Kalat remained suspended second day today. In Quetta, people got angered over low gas pressure and electricity outage. Supply of electricity form private Habibullah Coastal power plant was suspended due to suspension of gas supply to the plant. It led to additional load shedding which has also created water shortage.
In Killa Abdullah and Chaman cold winds dropped minimum temperature to minus 10 Celsius due to snowfall a week back.
Reports of severe cold have also received form Wadh, Zehri, Naal and Khuzdar and other areas where water freezed in pipelines. Bazars, markets and roads were deserted due to persisting cold.
