RAWALPINDI/KARACHI/LAHORE, Jan 20 (INP): The administrations of Karachi Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat Jail and Adiala Jail have been asked to further strengthen the security in the backdrop of possible attacks by Taliban and other terrorist organizations to free their imprisoned comrades.
According to reports, the intelligence agencies have informed police and other law enforcement institutions that Tehreek-i-Talban Pakistan has made planning to free their companions imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi and Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore and can attack the jails anytime.
The LEAs and jail administrations have been alerted that the miscreants can use the same strategy which they used during jail breaks in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. They have been asked to review and improve the security arrangements to make them foolproof.
A senior official of Rawalpindi police also confirmed the threats, saying that they have been receiving threats for quite some time now. He said that the security of Adiala jail was reviewed after the intelligence reports and a mock operation was also carried out to deal with any attack.
In Karachi security has been placed at high alert at the central jail. The Police on Monday had received a warning of possible attack after which the security was further beefed up.
According to reports, police deployment has been increased on University road, PIB Colony, Cheel Chowrangi flyover and surrounding areas while rangers have also been alerted. Traffic police said University road has been closed from Jail Chowrangi to New Town for all types of traffic.
