AIOU to bring around 1million out-of-school children in the education net

Islamabad, Feb 15 (Online): The Vice-Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU), Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi has worked out a road-map to provide free education to thousands of out-of-school children to help the government, achieving UN millennium goal 2015.

This was stated by Director, Bureau for University Extension and Special Programmes/Projects (BUESP), Muhammad Qasim Haider while addressing to the concluding session of a ten-day long capacity-building workshop for the teachers to educate thousands of drop-out female students and those who deprived to education facilities due to some socio-economic reasons.

A sustainable system, he said has been evolved to bring around one million such children in the education net within next three years.

A concluding ceremony of the workshop was held here today in which around thirty master trainers participated. The workshop was arranged under the Girl Power Programme for the students of Middle and Secondary level. The AIOU has arranged the programme in collaboration with Plan International (Pakistan), National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and Mountain Institute for Educational Development (MIED).
The concluding ceremony was arranged by the Bureau for University Extension and Special Programmes/Projects (BUESP). Country Manager, Plan International (Pakistan), Imram Yusuf Shami was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The ceremony was also addressed by Arafat Majeed,Programme Manager, NRSP, Sarfraz Malik, Focal Person, MIED, Muhammad Qasim Haider, Director BUESP (AIOU) and Training Coordinator, Rukhsana Durrani.
The training workshop was specially arranged for the Master Trainers from District Vehari and Chakwal who on completion of their training process will impart education to other teachers of the two Districts to education droup-out students. It was the 2nd workshop of its nature. Altogether seven sessions of ‘fast-track learning’ programme were to be arranged.
The main objectives of the workshop are to familiarize the master trainers of the professional teaching skill, equipping them with new technology who will transform their knowledge to other teachers from the region. During the workshop the master-trainers were given lectures by the eminent resource persons of AIOU on the educational skills. They were also taught as how to do efficient lesson-planning and activity-based learning.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Muhammad Qasim Haider said that the master trainers training programme has been arranged for providing basic education to hundreds of drop-out students and those living in the far-flung areas who could not get education due to lack of necessary sources and educational facilities. He said master-trainer programme has been the main vehicle for serving the end users. He said the Vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi has attached special importance to the teaching of deprived section of the society. Various programmes have been launched to make educational facilities available for the students of the far-flung regions at their door-step, he added.
