Thar crisis: Medicines still not available in hospitals, says report

KARACHI, Mar 18 (Online): Emergency was declared in five districts of Sindh including Thatta in the wake of the crisis in Tharparkar, according to a report presented before the Sindh High Court (SHC) by session judge Mithi, media reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, medicines were still not available in hospitals of the drought-hit district.

SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar had taken notice of the death of children due to acute malnutrition in Tharparkar and called for comments from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chief, the provincial chief secretary and secretary food, agriculture and livestock departments.

He had issued these directions while he read a letter addressed by the SHC Bar Association, requesting him to take notice of the situation in Tharparkar.

The SHC had also issued a notice to the NDMA to submit its report, informing of what measures they have initiated to mitigate the miseries resulting from the tragedy.
