QUETTA June 14 (PPI): Proposal would be floated to conduct raids for checking spurious drugs in the market to administration with magistrate and law enforcement agencies. Some doctors for their personal interest prescribed sub standard medicines.
This was stated by provincial health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch while addressing ?Saving newborn lives by early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding? organized by HELP and Nutrition Cell Balochistan here Saturday.
Dr Ayub, Dr Nasir Bugti and others also spoke.
Health Minister said that National party is committed to provide basic health facilities including health and others at the doorsteps of people. No hurdle in this regard would be tolerated.
He said roots of corruption are so powerful when you start cutting them they start your roots. He said multinational companies have made us their hostage. He said situation would be controlled by imposing emergency in Health Department. He said some doctors prescribe sub standard medicines to the patients for their own interest. There is need to stop this trend. He said a proposal would be put forth to conduct raids by administration along with Magistrate and law enforcement agencies.
He said assembly has passed a bill to stop open sale of milk for children. All parties in the assembly supported us and we are thankful to them. People he added are not aware of the importance of this bill. They should be made aware of it by such programmes.
Dr Maroof said 41 newborn out of 1000 die in the first month of their birth in Pakistan. He aid10 to 15 percent children of age under five can be saved by feeding mothers milk. In the first hour of birth 22 newborn can be saved from death.
Dr Maroof told that after passage of the bill children milk cannot be kept in open. If any medical store sells such milk it would give buyer into an envelop so that it is not seen otherwise medical store owners would be punished.
