CHATTAR July 17 (PPI): There are apprehensions of rice crop to go dry in Districts of Jaffarabad and Nasirabad due to less supply of water to Balochistan in Pat Feeder Canal.
According to details pat Feeder canal has a capacity of flow of 3500 cusecs of water. It is the biggest canal of Balochistan used for agriculture purposes. Canal was dug several years ago. Due to flood water going to canal for the past few years a fat layer of silt has settled in the canal and its banks have also been breached at several sites. This has reduced flow of water in the canal to 3500 cusecs which was earlier built for 6700 cusecs of water.
Millions of Rupees rice is cultivated in Districts of Jaffarabad and Nasirabad every year on Pat Feeder Canal water. Due to shortage of water there is apprehension of drying up of this crop this year. Rice is the main source of income of the people of the area.
Zamindars and growers have demanded of the federal and provincial governments to take serious notice of the shortage of water in Pat Feeder Canal and it should be desilted on emergency basis.
