QUETTA Sep 10 (PPI): Frontier corps Balochistan has undertaken digging of 480 Km trench along Pak-Afghan border. It is aimed at to effectively control intrusion of smugglers and terrorists and movement of arms and drugs.
Inspector General Frontier Corps Balochistan Muhammad Ejaz Shahid soon after he assumed Command of FC Balochistan focused special attention on control of border including administrative and security measures such as installation of SVAS at Quetta, Chaman and Taftan for arrest of illegal immigrants and their effective identification. Digging of trench along Pak-Afghan border is part of this step.
Repair and cleaning of 111 Km already existing trench has already been completed while digging of remaining 370 Km trench was underway at different sites according to situation of land. Trench is 8 feet deep and 10 feet wide. Hundreds of jawans of Zhob Militia, Killa Saifullah Scouts, Noshki Militia, Taftan Rifles, Mekran Scouts and Dalbandin Rifles were digging trench along with 70 excavators and dampers.
It is to mention here that there is no hurdle along 1270 Km long Pak-Afghan border. Taking benefit of this smugglers easily bring costly goods to markets in Pakistan without payment of legal tax which was causing extremely negative impacts of Pakistan economy. Illegal immigrants and smugglers associated with gun running and narcotics trafficking enter into Pakistan from Afghanistan without any checking. It has not only deteriorated law and order situation in the country but menace of narcotics has caused negative impacts on young generation. Terrorists and suspected people intrude into Pakistan territory and attack security forces. In the recent days 60 to 70 intruders tried to force their entry into Pakistan but which was foiled by FC troops. In heavy exchange of fire a FC jawan was martyred while several terrorists were killed and injured. It was also experienced that trench provided an strong defence position to FC patrol from where they effectively responded to terrorist aggression and their bid to cordon FC failed.
FC started trench digging project with the assistance of federal and provincial governments in May 2014 and so far 345 Km trench has been dug and repair completed. Remaining work on 135 Km trench would complete prior to October 30 under the supervision of IG FC Major General Muhammad Ejaz Shahid. The project has so far cost Rupees 260 million.
Under Border control mechanism building this trench would not only help check smuggling but intrusion of terrorists, movement of illegal immigrants and gun running would minimize to a great extent causing not only positive impacts on Pakistan economy but incidents causing impacts on mutual relations of Afghanistan and Pakistan would also be controlled.
