Sardar Raza Barech for achieving MDGs of education sector

QUETTA: The Advisor to Chief Minister for Education, Sardar Raza Muhammad Barech has underlined the need to pay special attention on education sector in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the sector.
He was addressing the first ever Provincial LSO Convention arranged by the Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) in collaboration with the provincial government here at a local hotel the other day.
The theme of the convention was “developing Balochistan through community participationâ€.
The Advisor of the Chief Minister presided over the event while it was attended by the members of Board of Board of Directors including Nawabzada Mehboob Khan Jogezai, Faqir Khan Jmalai, Mrs. Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, Anwar Saleem Kasi, Khalil Tatlay, besides the representatives of different donor agencies and civil society.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Raza Barech regretfully pointed out that around 1.1 children are enrolled in different educational institutions all over the province including Quetta while still around 1.8 million children are deprived of education in the province.
The literacy ration in Balochistan is the least in the country when it comes to talk about its comparison, he maintained.
He commended the role of BRSP in socio-economic uplift of the people in the province urging it to play its role in development of education sector as well.
It is fine that the BRSP is working for socio-economic development of the areas meeting the economic needs of the people, however, it also needs to take steps for improving education standard in the province, he stressed. Government would extend wholehearted cooperation to it (BRSP) in this regard, adding he assured.
Although we are facing immense problems, but we are determined to bring improvement in the prevailing state of education affairs in the province so that our children are decorated with the ornament of education and then play their due role in development and prosperity of the country, a passionate Raza Barech said.
Earlier, the participants of the convention were briefed about the role and objectives of the BRSP.
It was told that the BRSP had formally started its operations in the province in 1991. It was also informed that the BRSP is the biggest non-governmental organization in the province working for the cause of development of the province together with the government and other community based organizations.
It has been delivering services in 204 union councils of some 23 districts of the province.
It has tremendously worked for raising the living standard of people of the province, it was informed further.
The representatives from Mastung, Kharan and Kharan briefed the participants about LSO performance in their respective districts.
