QUETTA: The World AIDS Day is being observed today (Monday) in Quetta as elsewhere in the country and the world.
A function marking the Day has been arranged by the AIDS Control Programme Balochistan in collaboration with different non-governmental organizations serving in the prevention of AIDS and the related sector.
The Health Minister, Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch is likely to be the chief guest on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that the World AIDS is observed on December 1 every year all over the globe.
The 2014 theme for World AIDS Day is “Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-free Generation.”
The Day raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. It is a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
World AIDS Day was first conceived in August 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, two public information officers for the Global Programme on AIDS at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
