Country Director WFP meets Governor, CM

QUETTA Jan 8 (PPI): Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai has said that securing food security is a challenge. There is need for making food balance for saving children from fatal disease and minimizing mortality rate among mothers during deliveries Country Director World Food Programme Ms Lola Castro who called on him at the head of a delegation here Thursday.
Governor said there is sufficient scope for securing food security in Balochistan and permanent measures are inevitable for providing balance food and clean water to the people of the province.
He called upon provincial government to pay attention on increasing agriculture, livestock and fisheries produce in view of growing population of the province and to ensure provision of food. He said non access to insufficient nutrition and clean water due to poverty our children were suffering from different diseases. Provincial government is serious about basic health facilities and efforts were being made to deal with diseases taking birth due to faulty food and food shortage.
Governor Achakzai said provincial government welcomes world organisations for their cooperation for ending food problems among the children and mothers. He said with the cooperation of world organisations including WFP food shortage, overcoming mothers mortality ratio and bringing revolutionary changes in the field of Food and Agriculture way for success would be paved.
Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch while speaking to Ms Lola Castro said his government welcomes cooperation of world organisations for ending food problems among children and mothers. Despite meagre resources provincial government was taking practical measures for removing difficulties about health.
Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Secretary Health Noorul Haq Balochistan and Secretary Education Saboor Kakar were also present at the meeting.
WFP delegation apprised Chief Minister of various ongoing projects particularly children suffering from nutrition in 12 districts of Balochistan.
Chief Minister said that provincial averment was taking serious steps for health. It was trying to obtain funds from donor agencies and federal government to resolve problems about nutrition among the children. He said government has recently regularised services of seven thousand lady health workers so that children and pregnant women have better facilities of treatment in far flung areas of the province. He said children suffering from nutrition problems should be treated at the school and hospital.
He also assured WFP delegation of every possible cooperation of provincial government.
