Quetta, other parts receive snow

QUETTA Jan 21 (PPI): Quetta Valley and other parts are in the grip of rain and snowfall.
Snowfall started in Quetta Valley early this morning and continued to fall for about two hours. Everywhere there was white layer of snow. Mountains around the Valley were covered with white sheet giving a beautiful view.
People in great delight thronged to picnic spots on the outskirts of metropolis including Hanna Lake and Orak Valley and played with snow. They threw snowballs to enjoy snow.
It is added here that last year went almost dry cresting drought like condition in the province.
Reports of snowfall were also received form Ziarat, Kan Mehterzai, Kozhak Top, Sanjavi and other areas. Weather also turned cold following widespread rains and snowfall.
Over one foot snow has fallen in Ziarat, Sanjavi Chauteer Valley, Shireen, Tandvani, Asghara, Poi Shareef and other areas. Due to snowfall main highway linking Quetta-Ziarat, Sanjavi, Loralai and Duki was closed for traffic creating difficulties for the travelers.
After first rain in District Chagai this year cold was increased and people started to light fire day and night. Rain continued till this noon.
Reports from adjoining areas of District Chagai including upper reaches along Afghanistan and Iran Brabcha, Dorban Chah and adjacent area there was severe cold and people were confined to their houses.
Valley received a total of 11 mm during the past 24 hours while 2 centimeters of snow were recorded in airport area while it was much more in the north east and eastern side.
Maximum temperature recorded in Quetta today was 5 Celsius and minimum was 2 Celsius.
Nok Kundi received 16.8 mm of rain, Khuzdar 9.8 mm, Zhob, Sibi 7 mm, Panjgur 5 mm, Barkhan 3 mm, Lasbella, Dalbandin 2 mm.
Yesterday?s low over Southeast Iran now lies over West Balochistan and adjoining areas. Another low lies over North Arabian Sea and adjoining areas.
Cloudy weather with chances of thunderstorm, light rain is likely to prevail in Quetta Valley and adjoining areas during coming 24 hours.
