QUETTA Feb 4 (PPI): Mother?s milk is born right of infants they should not be deprive df this right.
This was stated by Dr Ayub Roz Chief of UNICEF Balochistan while addressing ?Breast feeding awareness raising? seminar here Wednesday.
Seminar was organised by Provincial Nutrition Cell supported by UNICEF.
Coordinator Nutrition Cell Health Department Balochistan Dr Ali Nasir Bugti, Dr Abid Panezai, Dr Mustafa, Dr Sadiq Baloch Deputy Programme Manager and President Press Club Razaur Rehman also spoke.
They said first mother milk serves as first vaccine and keeps infants safe from diseases. It is very much necessary for true, mental and spiritual growth of children. No milk other than mother?s can compete. Mother?s milk has anti bodies of mother?s body which after transforming into children?s body keep them save form several diseases.
They said children should be fed on mother?s milk for first six months then he should be given soft food along with mother?s milk for two years. This is also teaching of our religion and depriving them of this right is moral crime.
They expressed grave concern over situation in Balochistan where more than 40 percent children are suffering form malnutrition. He said work on this was continuing by Health department and UNICRF was satisfied with it. He said our literacy rate is 16 to 20 percent while it is almost nonexistent among females.
They also referred to law adopted by provincial assembly of Balochistan. According to this law violator would be liable to 2 years imprisonment and Rupees 200, 000 fine.
They said infant mortality ratio in Balochistan is very high where 111 out of 1000 children die every year. They said maternal mortality rate is 785 per one hundred thousand annually. They said 50 percent of new born die fo malnutrition in 2 to 3 three year of their birth.
