Vital campaign postponed in Quetta, Zhob, Shirani and Sibi for a week; over 2.4 million children to be vaccinated against disease

QUETTA: The anti-Polio campaign was postponed in Quetta and three other districts of Balochistan including Zhob, Shirani and Sibi.
According to the sources of the Provincial Health Department, the campaign has been postponed due to the security concerns as well as owing to non-availability of the necessary security in the four districts.
It may be mentioned here that the polio immunization campaign was to be launched from Monday last all over the province.
While the vital immunization campaign was postponed in Quetta and three other districts, however, the campaign has been launched in other 26 districts of the province.
According to the Health department sources, it is targeted to administer over 2.4 million children upto five years of age during the campaign.
For immunization, 6,464 mobile teams have been constituted in the targeted districts. Moreover, the arrangements have also been made at 782 fixed points as well as other transit points during the campaign.
It would be ensured that each and every child is vaccinated against the crippling disease, the sources said.
The sources also said that the polio immunization campaign is likely to be launched in Quetta and three other districts from next week.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner Zhob Division, Fawad Hashim Rabbani inaugurated the polio immunization campaign in the Zhob Division. He administered the anti-polio drop to the children in a Madrisa and other places marking inauguration of the campaign in Loralai.
Also present on the occasion was the Deputy Commissioner Loralai, Shah Zaib Kakar and other concerned officials.
He said that polio is a fatal disease and it is our collective responsibility to save our children from it.
However, it is possible only when the children would be properly immunized, he stressed.
The Commissioner also said that significance of the polio immunization campaign could be gauged from the fact that it is being monitored by the secretaries of different provincial government departments, commissioners and deputy commissioners.
He urged the parents, religious leaders and the civil society to fully cooperate with the anti-Polio teams engaged in the immunization campaign so as to achieve the desired targets.
He also directed to ensure fully security of the polio workers so that they may discharge their responsibilities well.
The polio immunization campaign will remain continued till February 19, 2015.
Kalat: Deputy Commissioner, Kalat, Salahuddin Noorzai inaugurated the polio immunization campaign in Khaliqabad, Mangochar the other day.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC Kalat stressed that every segment of the society would have to play one’s wholehearted role in eradication of polio from the province.
He also urged the religious leaders and all other conscious segments of the society to fully cooperate with the health workers and volunteers engaged in the anti-polio campaign so that none of the children is deprived of vaccination.
