Govt. very serious in eradication of polio, says Noorul Haq

QUETTA: The Secretary Health Department, Noorul Haq Baloch has said that every possible steps are being taken for prevention of the polio disease in the province.
In this regard, it is being endeavoured hard to immunize the children below five years of age against the disease, maintained the Secretary Health during a briefing conducted for the Director UAEPAP, Abdullah Al-Khalifa on polio situation in the province here the other day.
Also present on the occasion were the UAE’s Haroon Almanali, Hasanul Zaibi, Abdul Majeed, Dr. Tahira Baloch, Operation Officer World Health Organization, Dr. Shakir Baloch, Coordinator EPI and Director General Health Services, Dr. Farooq Azam Jan and other concerned officials.
The Secretary Health told that polio is a fatal disease and the government is very serious in its eradication.
All available resources are being mobilized for eradication of the polio disease, the Secretary Health maintained.
He also mentioned that the provincial government is paying special attention towards the polio high risk areas in the province.
Our special focus is on the high risk areas to eradicate the polio virus there, he insisted. The Secretary Health further informed that the lady health workers have also been engaged in the task of polio immunization at every doorstep so that none of the children is left without being administered the anti-polio vaccine, he maintained.
He also said that tremendous effects are continued in this regard at the Union Council level.
The Director UAEPAP, Abdullah Al-Khalifa on the occasion assured full cooperation in polio eradication on behalf of his organization.
Meanwhile, four-day polio immunization is in progress in 26 districts of the province the other day.
According to the Health department sources, it is targeted to administer over 2.4 million children upto five years of age during the campaign.
For immunization, 6,464 mobile teams have been constituted in the targeted districts. Moreover, the arrangements have also been made at 782 fixed points as well as other transit points during the campaign.
It would be ensured that each and every child is vaccinated against the crippling disease, the sources said.
Earlier, the polio immunization campaign had been postponed in Quetta, Zhob, Shirani and Sibi due to non-availability of the desired security.
The sources said that the polio immunization campaign is likely to be launched in Quetta and three other districts from next week.
