QUETTA: The International Mother Languages’ Day (IMLD) is being observed today (Saturday) in Quetta as elsewhere in the country and the world.
The theme for IMLD 2015 is "Inclusion in and through education: Language counts". Its focus is on one of the main challenges that cuts across many of the goals, i.e. Inclusion (equity/quality).
Making the celebrations in Quetta, different activities have been arranged by different organizations today.
A seminar on future of Balochi language has been arranged at the Balochi Academy at 11:00 AM. The Baloch literary personalities and intellectuals would speak on the topic.
Another function has been arranged by the Rah Shon Adabi Deewan at the same Balochi Academy at 02:00 PM the same day.
Another ceremony has been arranged by the Pakistan Academy of Letters in collaboration with the Adabai Society at the former’s office (Academy of Letters) at 05:00 Pm.
The intellectuals and writers of different languages would be attending the ceremony.
Needless to mention here is that the United Nations' (UN) International Mother Language Day annually celebrates language diversity and variety worldwide on February 21.
It also remembers events such as the killing of four students on February 21, 1952, because they campaigned to officially use their mother language, Bengali, in Bangladesh.
