QUETTA: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch and Senior Minister, Communications, Minerals and Industry, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri have said that no negligence would be tolerated in making the safety measures in mining sector more strict and effective.
This assurance was made by the Chief Minister and Senior Minister in their meeting with the Advisor to CM for Forests and Wildlife, Ubaidullah Jan Babat, who called on them separately, the other day.
Ubaidullah Babat apprised the Chief Minister and the Senior Minister about the tragic incident of the coal mine in which eight coal mine workers lost their lives in Duki area of Loralai.
He told them that he remained present at the site for supervision of relief and rescue activities in the affected coal mine in Duki, on directives of the Chief Minister.
The Advisor to Chief Minister informed that the basic reason behind such tragic incidents is the lack of safety measures in the coal mines, which caused loss of lives of the mine workers.
He stressed the need to take adequate measures for safety of the mine workers in the coal mines. In this regard, the coal mine owners should be made bound to ensure safety measures and availability of modern equipment in their respective coal mines in line with the rules and regulations.
Ubaidullah Babat also said that there is also a need to make necessary legislation according to the requirements.
He said that the Mines department could play rather more effective role in the relief and rescue operation. So, the department may be made bound to do the needful in this regard, he maintained.
He also suggested to take stern action against those mine owners not meeting the requirements and conditions set in this regard.
The Chief Minister and senior Minister assured to take due measures for safety of the coal mine workers in the province.
The Mines department and Chief Inspector Mines would be directed to take necessary measures in this regard, they assured further.
The Chief Minister on the occasion also assured to ensure early payment of the compensation amount to the heirs of the deceased mine workers in Duki.
