Celebrations of Intl. Mother Languages Day continue

QUETTA: A ceremony was held to mark the celebrations of International Mother Languages Day at the Academy of Letters here the other day.
The ceremony was organized in collaboration with the Brahvi Adabi Society.
The Script Editor of the PTV, Muhammad Afzal Mengal presided over the ceremony while General Secretary of Balochi Academy, Muhammad Panah Baloch and Professor Liaquat Sanni were the guests of honour.
Also those participated in the ceremony were: Haji Shah Baig, Noor Khan Muhammad Hassani, Afzal Murad, Abdul Qayum Baidar, Waheed Zaheer, Agha Zahid, Abdul Razzaq Ababki, Hameed Aziz Abadi, Hussain Bakhsh Sajid, General Secretary Brahvi Academy, Zahid Brahvi, Gharib Shah, Ajab Khan, Marina Khan and others.
They spoke at length about significance of the Mother Languages Day and said that the mother languages play important role in human evolution.
They mentioned that the UNESCO has expressed its fear about extermination of some mother languages including Brahvi language.
They stressed that there is a dire need to take effective steps for promotion and development of the mother languages through research.
They on the occasion hailed the government’s initiative of introducing the mother languages in syllabus. However, they said that promotion of the languages would be made possible only when they would be made the source of education.
In this regard, the role of literary organizations and academies is vital, they maintained.
We have to develop our culture and literature through mother languages in the province, they stressed further.
