QUETTA: An emergent meeting of the provincial sports organizations has been convened to discuss the issue of non-provision of annual grant-in-aid to them for last two years.
This was stated by the acting President of Balochistan Olympic Association (BOA), Atta Muhammad Kakar here on Friday.
He said that the sports organizations operating in the province are in a fix due to non-availability of necessary funds for their sports activities.
In compulsion, the sports organizations would be staging a protest demonstration in front of the assembly building on March 6, 2015, Atta Kakar announced.
Expressing his concern over delay in release of the annual grant-in-aid to the provincial sports associations by the concerned Sports Control Board, Atta Muhammad Kakar charged that the annual sports grant-in-aid has not been given to the provincial sports bodies for last two financial years i.e., 2013-14 and 2014-15 in the province, as a result they (bodies) are facing severe financial issues.
He mentioned that there are some 36 sports associations operating in the province, which are granted financial aid under three categories i.e., A, B and C.
Atta Kakar further pointed out that the sports associations fall in the category of “A†are granted sum Rs. 100,000 each. Similarly, the sports associations fall in the categories of “B†and “C†are given Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 60,000 respectively, he claimed.
Atta Kakar, who is also the recipient of Presidential Pride of Performance award, also charged that the concerned Balochistan Sports Control Board (BSCB) is not acting practically, rather is making assurances to the sports bodies over the issue.
He mentioned that the sports associations are facing issues in continuing their activities. The participation of the sports officials and players of different sports in other parts of the country is also affected due to the financial issues.
He demanded of the authorities concerned to take notice of the situation and help release the necessary grant-in-aid to the sports associations at the earliest.
He also demanded to increase the grant in proportion with other provinces of the country.
