Security arrangements reviewed ahead of Senate Polls

QUETTA: Security arrangements were reviewed for the Senate elections being held in the Provincial Assembly here today (Thursday).
Strict security measures would be adopted on the eve of the Senate elections particularly around the building of the provincial assembly, which otherwise has been declared as the polling station for the polls.
The decision to this effect was made in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Saifullah Chattha reviewed the arrangements in this regard. Those who attended the meeting were included: Inspector General of Police Muhammad Amlish, Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs department, Captain ® Akbar Hussain Durrani, Commissioner Quetta, Kambar Dashti, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Abdul Razaq Cheema, Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Dawood Khan Khilji and other concerned high ups.
As per the decision made, the personnel of the Counter Terrorism Force, Police, Frontier Corps (FC) and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) would discharge the security duties on the occasion.
It was informed that only three persons would be authorized to enter into the Polling station. They would include: candidate, voter and polling agent.
No unauthorized person would be allowed to enter into the polling station. A separate space would be allocated for the media persons covering the Senate’s elections.
The Chief Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the security arrangements made for the elections. He directed to all the concerned to ensure security.
While on the other hand, the members of the Provincial Assembly have been requested not to bring with them their (security) guards carrying weapons on eve of the elections of Senate to be held on March 05, 2015.
This was stated in an official hand out of the Provincial Assembly’s Secretariat on Tuesday.
This request has been made in backdrop of the decision, which had been made in a meeting held with the Provincial Secretary Home in the chair on February 11, 2015.
It was decided in the meeting that entry of the security guards carrying weapons would be banned in boundary of the provincial assembly to ensure security of the members of the assembly under the security plan devised for March 05.
So, in light of the decision, it was requested to the MPAs to follow the advice in this regard, as mentioned in the official hand out.
Holiday in Provincial Assembly:
Meanwhile, it has been announced that there would be a public holiday in the Provincial Assembly’s secretariat on March 05, on account of the Senate’s elections.
So, entry of the officers and staff of the assembly would be prohibited, an official notification issued here by the Provincial Assembly’s secretariat mentioned.
