Highlights of Balochistan leg Senate elections in Provincial Assembly

QUETTA: The polling for Senate elections was held in a conducive environment in the Provincial Assembly, which was declared as the Polling Station for the same.
The Provincial Election Commissioner (PEC), Syed Sultan Bayazeed performed as the Returning Officer. The duties of Polling Officers were performed by the Director (Election), Waseem Ahmed, Director (Admin) Abdul Wahid and Deputy Director (Establishment), Nazir Ahmed.
Although the polling start time was 08:00 AM, however, the first vote was casted at 09:32 AM.
The Advisor to Chief Minister for Zakat and Ushr, Abdul Majid Abro casted the first vote in the 65-member house of the Provincial Assembly.
Chief Minister, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch was eighth in the row of those casted vote in the elections.
Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali was the first among the prominent, who reached the assembly for casting of his vote in the Senate polls.
He reviewed the overall arrangements for the Senate polls as well.
Afterwards, members of the assembly came to the assembly and kept on casting their votes one by one and thus all the 65 members casted their votes.
The chief of Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) along with the BNP-Awami’s Mir Zafarullah Zehri came to the assembly for casting his vote.

Strict security measures were adopted in and around the building of the Provincial Assembly. The additional deployment of personnel of the Police, Frontier Corps (FC), Counter Terrorism Force (CTF) and other law enforcement agencies was made on the occasion.
Some 500 personnel of different LEAs were deployed.
The Commissioner Quetta Division, Kambar Dashti, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Abdul Razzaq Cheema and other concerned high ups were also present to supervise the security and related arrangements.
The entry of unauthorized persons was prohibited inside the assembly building. The media personnel were not allowed to enter the assembly building prohibiting them from media coverage of the elections.
Earlier, the Provincial Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs, Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti reviewed the security arrangements made for the polls visiting the assembly building along with the concerned senior officials on Wednesday night.
It may be mentioned here that altogether 26 candidates were in competition run for 12 seats of Senate from the Balochistan province.
A total of 12 candidates contested the elections for seven general category seats while five candidates each were in competition for two seats each for the categories of Ulema / Technocrats and women respectively. Moreover, four candidates competed for one seat of the minorities.
In the end, the PEC, who performed as Returning Officer in the senate elections, announced the unofficial results.
As per the results announced, three seats each were secured by the three main ruling parties i.e., Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), National Party and Pashtoonkhaw Milli Awami Party (PkMAP). One seat each was obtained by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M).
An independent candidate also got a seat.
PML-N’s candidates, who got success in the Senate elections from Balochistan, were included: Mir Naimatullah Zehri (General seat), Agha Shahbaz Durrani (Technocrat / Ulema) and Ms. Kalsoom Parveen (Women seat).
National Party’s successful candidates were: Mir Hasil Bizenjo (General seat), Mir Kabir Ahmed Muhammad Shahi (Technocrat / Ulema) and Dr. Ashok Kumar (Minority seat).
PkMAP’s successful candidates were: Muhammad Usman Khan and Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan (General seat) and Gul Bushra (women seat).
BNP-Mengal’s candidate Dr. Jahanzaib Jamaldini (General seat), JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri (General) seat and an independent candidate, Mir Yousaf Badini were also elected as Senator.
