QUETTA Mar 6 (PPI): Importance of Jamiat Ulemae Islam has increased following recent elections of Senate for the election of new Chairman of the Upper House. In the coming days if JUI supports PML-N for this office it would have its chairman and if JUI will support PPP then this party would have its chairman. JUI would have its positive role in the Senate.
This was stated by newly elected Senator and minister of State for Postal Services Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hydri at a press conference here Friday afternoon.
He said there is need for national solidarity in view of country?s situation and problems. We have to think above politics and party. Otherwise institutions would continue to form but would have no utility.
He said role of JUI is before all. It has a record with regard to problems of Balochistan. He said he has raised such issues in the Senate as nationalists did not dare to talk about.
Referring to Gwadar-Kashgar Economic Corridor he said our leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman showed the route to Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal by helicopter. When he came to known the said route was being changed he again held a meeting Ahsan Iqbal and said to stop it effective measures should be taken. He said if Kashgar-Gwadar route is changed dreams of development of Balochistan would never be materialised. We are ready to go to extreme over this issue.
He said Balochistan is rich in mineral resources and has a warm water coast. But all these are hidden after long time and we are unable to exploit them.
Maulana Hydri said after 18 th amendment provinces received autonomy. Still most parts of Balochistan except Quetta were not receiving electricity supply for more than 8 to 9 hours while zamindars get supply for only 4 to 6 hours. He said 90 percent of our mainstay is agriculture. Then what is the reason government is unable to play its role in this regard.
Answering a question about election of an independent candidate as member of Senate from Balochistan assembly he said it is clear horse trading. Those should be asked who have committed this dirty crime, headed.
Referring to allegation of Sardar Akthar Mengal Ulema left us in the middle (Rukoo) Maulana Hydri said it is not so. We had made adjustment with them.
Answering another question he said Senate elections are always troublesome and there has been allegation over Balochistan that members are sold here. He said there should be legislation so that Senate elections should be transparent.
About show of hand process he said it is difficult problem but it can be thought of. We support elections on proportional representation or direct elections of Senate.
