Celebrations of Intl. Women Day: Various women right groups to “Make it Happen” together

QUETTA: Different civil society organizations working for the cause of women rights in Balochistan have joined their hands together to celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD) today (Sunday).
The celebrations are included: seminars, poetry session, rally and a festival to be organized marking the IWD.
The banners have also been placed at various roads to highlight importance of the Day and the women’s rights.
The representatives of the civil society would also be visiting the jails and Darul Aman to meet the women staying there and inquire about their issues.
This and other details were provided by the office bearers of different organizations including Chairpeson of Tanzim Idara Bahali-e-Mustehqeen, Mrs. Surriya Alahdin, Ms. Sana Durrani, Dr. Rasheeda Panezai, Ms. Jahan Ara Tabasum, Ms. Nadia Rasheed and others in a joint presser the other day.
They said that the IWD is observed on March 8 every year all over the globe under different themes. The theme of year 2015 is “Make it Happen”.
They have decided to celebrate the IWD together this time arranging different activities, the office bearers of different organizations working for uplift of the women.
While different activities are being organized to mark the Day, a Women’s Festival would also be part of the activities to be held in Queta.
The Provincial Minister for Women Development, Mir Izhar Hussain Khosa would inaugurate the festival.
Moreover, a rally would also be taken out on March 10 to express solidarity with the womenfolk in Quetta.
The activities to be arranged on eve of the Day would also include the live shows / programmes on the televisions and radio.
The office bearers of women organizations along with the senior officials would be visiting the Quetta District Jail and Darul Aman to see the women there.
They on the occasion demanded of the provincial government to present the bill against marriage of under- age girls in the provincial assembly after approval from the provincial cabinet.
The equal representation should also be given to women member of the provincial assembly in its different committees, they demanded further.
The leaders of women’s rights said that provincial commission on status of women have been formed in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, so they demanded of Chief Minister, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch to form a similarly commission in Balochistan as well.
A provincial consultative committee should also be constituted under the Women’s Development department, they maintained.
Meanwhile, the National Party would also be holding a women’s convention on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Quetta.
In a statement issued here, Dr. Shama Ishaq, who happens to be the central Secretary of NP’s Women Wing, said that different committees have been formed to make necessary arrangements for the convention.
The committees are included: organizing committee, finance committee and information committee.
The organizing committee would comprise: Ms. Sabira Islam Advocate, Ms. Tahira Khursheed Baloch, Ms. Kashifa Taj Gichki, Liaquat Shahwani.
Finance Committee: Ms. Farzana Raisani and Sumair Samalani.
Information Committee: Sumaira Shaukat Anqa and Ali Ahmad Lango.
The responsibility of the theme and logo was assigned to Ms. Fatima Khan.
