Seminar on women?s rights

QUETT A Mar 10 (PPI): Women and children are most sufferers from natural calamities. We need practical measures for security of women. Woman would be authoritative when she would have powers. Balochistan Assembly passed bill on domestic violence against women first.
These views were expressed by Women members of Balochistan Assembly and civil society leaders while addressing a seminar on rights of women. They included MPAs Samina Khan, Dr Shama Ishaq Baloch, Ms Yasmeen Lehri, Secretary Women Development department Balochistan Hyder Ali Shikoh, Salma Qureshi, Rehana khilji while addressing a seminar organised by provincial government and private organizations.
They said society cannot progress unless women are given rights. They said women are part of society. They have as many rights as men have in the society. Ulema and masajid have high status in the society. Ulema should guide the people about rights of women in their Friday sermons so that reservations about women are removed. There is need to give women full representation in public institutions so that they could raise their voice at their own.
They added woman is mother, sister, daughter but they are meted out most excesses in the society.
They said there is tradition of small age marriage in Balochistan we have to end it. Unless girls are grown up they should not be married because small age marriage causes several problems for her creating negative impacts on mother and child. Girls should be prepared mentally and physically for marriage then she can discharge her obligation as mother.
They told that three shelter homes were working for women in Balochistan. There is need to further increase their numbers.
They said Media was highlighting different aspects of life. It should also use pen for women?s rights and giving them their status as to what are their rights and why they were not getting them.
