First formal session of QMC held: Musalihat Anjumans to be formed at local councils’ level “Councilors to be authorized to issue birth and death certificates; no property of Corporation to be leased out in future”

QUETTA: The first formal session of the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) was held here the other day.
Deputy Mayor of QMC, Muhammad Younas Baloch, who also happens to be its Chairman, presided over the session.
Mayor, Dr. Kalimullah Khan and councilors of the Corporation were in attendance at the session.
During the session, it was proposed to form Musalihat (Rapproachement) Anjuman at the level of local council under Article 81 of Balochistan Local Government Act 2010. In view of the vast area of the Metropolitan, the Anjumans would be formed comprising three members at the Wards’ level.
The area councilor would act as its chairman / convener while there would be a male and a female member from every ward, it was suggested.
Moreover, it was also proposed to authorize the councilors of union councils to issue the birth certificate upto 18 years of as well as the death certificate and nikah and divorce certificates in their respective union councils.
The councilors would also be authorized to check performance of the sanitary staff of their respective areas.
It would also be essential to seek permission letter from the councilors to submit maps of the buildings and later start construction.
Meanwhile, two resolutions were tabled in the session.
Chaudhary Muhammad Arif was the proposer while Muhammad Aslam Rind endorsed the same.
The resolution demanded release of development funds to wards of the Metropolitan Corporation within 10 days.
It was also stated that no property of the Corporation would be leased out in future.
The meeting approved formation of at least 17 committees at the QMC level within next 20 days, besides release of funds to the councilors as well as grant of incentives to the Mayor and deputy Mayor, uniforms of the security guards, offices of the urban wards and posting of the staff there.
Addressing the session, Chairman Younas Baloch said that the local government system is a milestone in serving the masses and resolving their issues at the doorstep without wastage of time.
He said that our ambitions and morals are high, and so we are focusing on as how to resolve the issues facing the Corporation and the general public.
We would not be sitting satisfied over recent achievements made, Younas Baloch maintained.
He also said that the elected councilors would demonstrate high social values upholding the sanctity of the house in future.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of QMC, Dr. Kalimullah appreciated the proposals given by the members.
He pledged to mobilize all available resources to keep the city clean.
Our special focus would be on disposing of solid waste and improving the traffic system in metropolis, Dr. Kalimullah said.
He also gave approval to recruitment of more sweepers to expedite the pace of cleanliness in the city.
He urged the councilors to pay attention towards their respective areas so as to make collective efforts for making the city neat and clean.
