NID polio immunization campaign begins in 29 districts today Necessary exercise deferred in Quetta district for a week time owing to non-availability of desired security

QUETTA: The National Immunization Days (NID) Polio campaign is scheduled to start from today (Monday) in 29 districts of Balochistan province.
However, the campaign has been deferred in Quetta district for time being mainly owing to non-availability of the desired security, as the sources of the Provincial Health Department told to the media here.
The immunization campaign would be launched in Quetta next week, the sources maintained.
During the campaign being launched in other 29 districts of the province, it is targeted to vaccinate over 2.47 million children below five years of age against the crippling disease, sources of the Health department informed.
For the purpose of immunization, 6,498 mobile teams have been formed. While on the other hand, the arrangements have also been made to administer anti-Polio vaccine to the children at 789 fixed sites and 311 transit routes.
As many as 1,332 area Incharges would also take part in the NID campaign, the sources maintained.
Special arrangements have also been made to vaccinate the Afghan refugee children in their camps and otherwise.
As far Quetta, the polio vaccine would be administered to over 4,85,000 children during the campaign.
It may be mentioned here that two polio cases have so far been reported from Balochistan in the current year 2015.
The first case had been reported from Killa Abdullah district last month with second case reported from Duki area of Loralai district this month.
Meanwhile, the arrangements were reviewed to make the polio immunization campaign in different districts.
Mostly the district administrations were seen well prepared to carry out the vital exercise aimed at preventing the crippling disease from their respective districts.
Meetings were held to review the arrangements in Shirani and Khuzdar districts last week. The Deputy Commissioner of the districts directed to the concerned staff to play their wholehearted role in making the campaign successful.
They said that it is our national obligation to save our children from the diseases and so the polio disease which otherwise paralyses them
They said that all the parents should be convinced to get their children administered the anti-polio vaccine.
They also said that those creating hurdles in smooth polio immunization campaign would be dealt with harshly.
