New case of Polio virus confirmed in Quetta

QUETTA: A new case of poliovirus was confirmed in a three-month-old boy in Quetta raising the total number cases to three in Balochistan during the current year.
According an official of Emergency Operation Cell (EOC) Balochistan, poliovirus type-one was confirmed in a three-month boy Abdul Rehman Achakzai, a resident of Pashtoonabad. It was the first case in provincial capital while third in Balochistan during the year of 2015. Earlier polio cases were detected in Loralai and Qila Abdullah districts of Balochistan.
Quetta block?comprising Quetta, Qila Abdullah and Pishin, are high risk areas in Balochistan where majority of the cases detected last year also. As many as 23 cases of poliovirus were confirmed in Balochistan in 2014. ?At least 20 cases of poliovirus have so far been detected in Pakistan in 2015,? stated in the press release.
The anti-polio drive kicked off in 29 districts of Balochistan Monday aimed at administering polio drops to two million children. The anti-polio drive was postponed in Quetta due to the non-availability of security.
