Tally of polio cases rises to three in 2015 Fresh polio case surfaced in Balochistan

QUETTA: A fresh polio case has been surfaced in Balochistan increasing its tally to three during the current year.
The sources of the Polio Emergency Operation Cells Balochistan confirmed polio virus has been detected in a three-month old boy child namely Abdul Rehman Achakzai, the resident of Pashtoonabad area of Quetta.
The sources also confirmed that the child, who was infected with polio virus, was immunized against the disease at least for six times.
It may be mentioned here that it was the third case of the year 2015 as the first two cases were reported from Killa Abdullah and Loralai districts respectively in January and March.
Last year, in all 25 cases had been reported from Balochistan with highest number of cases i.e., 13 reported from Killa Abdullah district.
Moreover, five cases had been reported from Quetta district during year 2014. One case each was reported from Khuzdar, Chaghai, Pishin, Zhob, Killa Saifullah and Naseerarbad.
In view of the urgency of the polio cases in Balochistan, the polio campaign has already been launched in its 29 districts.
However, the campaign was postponed in Quetta district for time being mainly because of non-availability of the desired security.
The immunization campaign would be launched in Quetta next week, the sources maintained.
During the campaign being launched in other 29 districts of the province, it is targeted to vaccinate over 2.47 million children below five years of age against the crippling disease, sources of the Health department informed.
For the purpose of immunization, 6,498 mobile teams have been formed. While on the other hand, the arrangements have also been made to administer anti-Polio vaccine to the children at 789 fixed sites and 311 transit routes.
As many as 1,332 area Incharges would be taking part in the NID campaign, the sources maintained.
