Bringing improvement in traffic, cleanliness, sewerage system top priority: Mayor

QUETTA: The Mayor of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC), Dr. Kalimullah Khan has said that bringing improvement in the existing traffic, cleanliness and poor sewerage system in Quetta city is included in our top priority.
Talking to the media, he said that Quetta city, which once was a beautiful city, has now turned out into one of the most polluted cities of the world.
He mentioned that the city had been designed for 60,000-70,000 after the devastating earthquake of May 1935. But, it’s population has increased to around 3 million over the years. Due to the poor planning and expansion of the city, it is facing numerous civic issues, he pointed out adding regretted that no proper strategy was evolved to bring improvement in the urban living.
However, we would steer the city out of crisis and the issues with cooperation of the provincial government, he pledged.
The Mayor said that we would resolve the issue of traffic on permanent basis and that on priority. The construction of under passes is unavoidable in this regard, he maintained.
He said that we would be going to take action against the hospitals and shopping malls established without parking lots.
Moreover, all available resources would also be mobilized to improve cleanliness situation in the city, he mentioned.
Proper disposal of solid waste would be ensured and in this regard, negotiations are underway with different companies.
He said that the councilors would be taken on board to resolve the issues being faced by the people in different areas.
Referring the Balochistan Sports Festival, Dr. Kalimullah Khan said that the credit of successful holding of the Festival goes to the province’s political and military leadership.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kalimullah Khan visited the BISP office the other day.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the BISP is providing an opportunity to the poor women to stand on their feet financially.
He also applauded the Programme terming it a step towards empowerment of the women.
