Anti-measles drive set to be launched from April 13 in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Provincial Health Department has decided to launch a 12-day anti-measles campaign in the province from April 13, 2015.
The campaign would continue till April 25, 2015, announced the Secretary Health, Noorul Haq Baloch while addressing a press conference here at the Press Club the other day.
He was flanked by the Director General Health Services, Dr. Farooq Azam Jan, Coordinator of Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI), Shakir Ali Baloch, Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Ishaq Panezai as well as the representatives of UNICEF and WHO.
The Secretary Health mentioned that all the necessary arrangements have been made for the anti-measles campaign all over the province.
He added that the vaccination would be administered to 3.55 million children from six months to ten years of age during the campaign, which the Chief Minister has allocated Rs. 137 million.
In all 94 mobile teams comprising trained health workers had been constituted for vaccination of children in addition to 2158 out reach teams would be taking part in the vital campaign. Moreover, the vaccination would also be administered at 493 fixed points during the campaign, he maintained.
The Secretary Health on the occasion expressed his concern over prevalence of the measles disease in the province.
He said that the government is seriously taking steps to rid the province of the virus through the collaborative efforts.
Sherani campaign:
The necessary arrangements have been made in connection with the forthcoming anti-measles campaign to be launched in Sherani district as elsewhere in the province.
This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner Sherani, Muhammad Azeem Kakar while briefing the local newsmen in Sherani.
Also present on the occasion were the Chairman District Council, Sultan Sherani, District Health Officer, Dr. Arif Shah, Dr. Khair Muhammad Sherani, Dr. Abdul Hanan, Chief Officer, Abdul Karim Sherani and others.
Deputy Commissioner mentioned that the anti-measles campaign would be launched from April 13 to 25.
He would personally supervise the campaign, the DC maintained. He also said that necessary awareness would be created about the disease through loud speakers and those in the gatherings of Jummatul Mubarak.
He on the occasion appealed to the religious leaders, representatives of the local bodies, media and all other segments of the society to fully cooperate with the administration and health department during the campaign.
