Peshawar tragedy: probe committee suggests one suicide bomber was female

Peshawar, September 23 (Online): Initial report, prepared by committee on Monday suggested that one of suicide bomber was female.

According to the report, the bombers could be young men in their early twenties (20-25), however eyewitness accounts differ substantially from what the report says.

Some of the people, who saw the deadly attack unfold, told the investigators the attackers were wearing police uniforms, while others said they were Burqa-clad.

A four-member committee was constituted on Monday to investigate Sunday’s bombing in a church of Peshawar which claimed over 80 lives with nearly 150 injured.

Officials said the committee, headed by SSP Investigation, visited the blast site and recorded statements besides reviewing evidences collected from the site.

Officials said head of the suicide bomber would be sent to Lahore for the D.N.A test.

Officials said at least 16 kilogram explosives were used in these blasts.
A pair of suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a 130-year-old Anglican church –All Saints Church – after Sunday Mass in Peshawar. There were around five to six hundred people inside the Church at the time of explosions.

The attack came on the day when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for New York to attend the 68th session of U.N. General Assembly. He will address the General Assembly on Friday.

The Prime Minister said that he himself and the entire nation are shocked over the brutality of this incident‚ which not only amounts to murder of our Christian brothers‚ sisters and children but it amounts to killing a nation.

The Prime Minister assured that the federal government stands by the provincial government in this hour of grief and sorrow.

Security has been beefed up at churches across the country as protests against the carnage are underway in different cities.

Meanwhile protests staged in various cities and towns across the country against Peshawar church attack.

On the other hand, a special plan has been chalked out for the security of Peshawar’s minorities, which includes measures like deployment of additional police armed with latest weaponry at the churches, temples, other holy places, and burial/cremation grounds.
