Balochistan govt regrets to give any date for holding LB polls

ISLAMABAD, September 23 (Online): Balochistan government has said in Supreme Court that it regrets to give any time frame for holding Local Bodies (LB) polls saying that cabinet has not been completed therefore, it can not give any date for the time being on this count.

A division bench of SC presided over by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja took up the case of LB polls for hearing on Monday.

Attorney General (AG) told the court summary on LB polls including cantonment board was forwarded to the Prime Minister (PM) who has proposed some amendments therein. A 10-member committee has been constituted to review these amendments and present its recommendations to PM. Holding of LB polls will become possible in the month of November, he added.

The court directed him to obtain instructions from the government in this respect and inform it after interval.

The AG told the court after the intermission that government would complete its home work and “we assure the court that LB polls will be held in November. Summary in this regard has been sent to PM.

All the four advocate generals appeared in the court. Advocate General Balochistan told the court Balochistan cabinet has not been completed so far therefore, he is unable to give any date with reference to LB polls.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for further 3 weeks.
