Issue of water shortage to be resolved in era of present Govt.

QUETTA: The Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA), Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai has categorically stated that the issue of shortage of clean drinking water would be resolved during our era of government.
This, he claimed while speaking on occasion of visit of Mangi Dam the other day. Also present on the occasion was the Minister for Planning and Development (P&D), Dr. Hamid Khan Achakzai, Additional Chief Secretary Development, Naseebullah Khan Bazai and other concerned high ups.
The Minister PHE and WASA maintained that it is our endeavour to supply water to Quetta city through alternate means including the Mangi dam. The work on construction of the Dam is in progress, maintaining he mentioned.
While the issue of potable water would be resolved on permanent basis with construction of the Bridge Aziz Khan Dam, he added.
Nawab Ayaz Jogezai regretfully pointed out that the successive governments did not pay due attention on resolving the water issue. The then President Pervez Musharraf had provided the huge amount of Rs. 12 billion for provision of water in Quetta city, but it was embezzled and thus the issue got aggravated further, he charged.
Similarly, the project of Mangi Dam had been started 20 years ago, but the past governments stopped work on the same shelving the important project, he charted further.
However, it is our sincere endeavour to resolve the issue of water on permanent basis, the Minister PHE maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister P&D, Dr. Hamid Achakzai said that our party has always given importance to the issue of water. The issue of water stands our first, second and third priority, the Minister P&D said.
While we have given extra ordinary importance towards the issue of water, steps are also being taken to address the issue of water for agriculture purposes, he added.
He also said that the government has already planned to build at least 100 dams to preserve the rainwater in different parts of the province.
The project of 100 dams would cost Rs. Billions of rupees, he added noting that the federal government is extending full cooperation in the project.
He on the occasion held the successive governments responsible for the prevailing water crisis in the province.
He said that we can’t the issues of 60 years in five years. However, still, we are endeavouring to resolve the same with determination, but we would need cooperation of the public, he concluded.
