QUETTA: The water crisis continued to prevail in the provincial metropolis and its adjoining areas with apparently no immediate respite regarding solution of the issue in the sight.
Majority of the areas are facing acute shortage of water with no exception to the main city areas, a situation that has forced the dwellers to purchase water from the private water tanker operators.
As the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has failed to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water to the dwellers, so we are forced to purchase water from the private water tanker operators, said a resident of Arif Road, Kamran.
Water is not supplied for many days and if it is supplied, the pressure remained very low, he maintained.
A private water tanker is costing Rs. 1000-1500 depending on the area of supply, it was learnt during a survey conducted.
A household comprising five to six persons has to purchase three to four tankers in a month to meet their requirement of water.
Under the prevailing price hike, it has become very difficult to bear extra financial burden of Rs. 5,000 to 6,000 just for water while the government and the concerned department seems oblivious from the critical situation, a resident of Gilani road remarked.
When talked to the WASA authorities, they told that we are trying our level best to supply water, but still we are also facing issues in this regard.
The smooth supply of electricity is also an issue as the water supply in different areas is subjected to the electricity supply, it was told further.
The government should provide extra resources to the authority to resolve the issue of water, which is really emerging as a big one, the authorities said.
