Pakistan Railways major reforms in three years to become profitable

Multan, September 24 (Online): Pakistan Railways is likely to undergo a major reforms operation in next three years to put it onto track of profit.

“As many as 50 engines would be purchased through international tender”, Khawaja Saad Rafique, the minister for Railways, said here on Tuesday.

“About Rs. 5 billion will be spent on repairing of 150 locomotives”, the minister further said in a briefing.

General manager of PR Anjum Pervez said at present the railways has been facing a deficit of Rs. 29 billion.

Recounting some of the major reforms, he says that from now onward appointments would be made no on merit only.

“The will be zero tolerance about irregularities in the ministry”, Khawaja said.

Pakistan Railways, given its poor infrastructure and problematic locomotives, has been suffering from a massive loss of over Rs. 40 billion.
