Implementation starts on Muharram Plan of Security in Quetta

QUETTA: The Quetta Police has started implementation on the security plan devised for the Muharramul Haram in Quetta.
Under the security plan, around 2,500 personnel of the Police, Balochistan Constabulary and Levies force have been deployed till 6th Muharramul Haram while the strength would be enhanced up to 5,500 afterwards, told the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Quetta, Syed Imtiaz Shah to media here the other day.
The DIG Police maintained that while the Quetta security plan had already been devised, so implementation has been started on it now.
Under the security plan, the Frontier Corps (FC)’s 32 platoons would also discharge the security responsibilities in the meantime, he mentioned adding that the three battalions would remain stand-bye for the Muharram security.
In addition to that, 71 nakas (special checking points) have been established in different parts of the city particularly close to the Imambargahs and other places where the majalis would be held, the DIG Police informed further.
While on the other hand, there would be an emergency in all the five public sector hospitals including Sandeman Provincial Headquarter Hospital, Bolan Medical Complex Hospital, Benazir Shaheed Hospital and others.
Moreover, it has been recommended to suspend the cellular phone service on 7th and 10th Muharramul Haram, he announced.
As far the sensitivity of the Imambargah in Quetta, the DIG Police Quetta told that 23 Imambargahs have been declared most sensitive while 29 have been declared less sensitive.
Only four Imambargahs have been declared as normal with regard to the security point of view, he maintained.
Syed Imtiaz Shah also said that the routes of the 7th and 10th Muharram would be sealed for general public and no unauthorized person would be allowed to pass through. The air surveillance of the Muharram processions and the security measures would also be carried out.
The special security passes would be issued to the security personnel, volunteers and media discharging their professional duties during the Muharram procession, he added.
To be precise, stringent security measures would be adopted to ensure foolproof security during the Muharram, the DIG said urging the general public to extend wholehearted cooperation to the police and other law enforcement agencies in this regard.
