“Govt. firm to bring about exemplary changes in public health sector”

QUETTA: The provincial government is determined to bring exemplary change in the public health sector by extending equal health facilities in all areas of the province.
This and similar views were expressed by the Secretary Health, Noorul Haq Baloch while talking to different delegations of Gwadar the other day.
The members of the delegations informed the Secretary Health about the problems and hrships being faced in provision of health facilities at the district Headquarter Hospital Gwadar and other health establishments including the Basic Health Units and Rural Health Centers there.
The issues related to the absence of doctors and lack of treatment facilities also came up for threadbare discussion. The members of delegations sought the role of Secretary Health in resolving the issues in this regard. They also requested to recruit medical staff on the vacant posts of the Health department.
The Secretary Health on the occasion told that orders have been issued to post around 11 doctors in the district Headquarter Hospital of Gwadar. However, majority of the doctors have yet to report at their respective places of posting, he regretfully pointed out.
He assured that stern action would be taken against the absentee doctors and other medical staff. Their salaries would also be stopped, he warned adding that if they failed to join their duties even, then they would have to face suspension and termination from their service.
Referring the availability of medicines in the hospital and the health centers of Gwadar, the Secretary Health mentioned that an increase of Rs. 3.8 million has been made in quota of the medicines for the district from the current financial year. Prior to this, a sum of Rs. 13 million had been increased for the medical centers, it was mentioned further.
Moreover, dialysis center has also been established in the district Hospital. The necessary machinery costing Rs. 10 million has already been installed in the dialysis center.
Noorul Haq Baloch noted with contentment that a Thalassaemia care center is working in Gwadar, which is the second one after Quetta.
He pledged that funds would be allocated for the Thalassaemia center of Gwadar from the next financial year. That would facilitate the patients suffering from Thalassaemia disease in Gwadar and other parts of Makran. A full-fledged blood bank with modern facilities would also be established in Turbat area of Makran, he announced further.
While on the other hand, the work on the GDA Hospital would also be started soon, he assured adding that the provincial government would release grant of Rs. 150 million annually for the GDA Hospital.
After making the GDA functional, there would be marked improvement in the healthcare facilities for the people of Gwadar and other parts, the Secretary Health believed.
He also assured to make recruitments on the vacant posts of health department in Gwadar. The local people would be considered for the jobs as it is their right to be recruited, he added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary Health announced to post a Drug Inspector in the district immediately.
