Polio immunization drive to be kicked off in Balochistan on November 10

QUETTA: The polio immunization campaign (National Immunization Days) is being launched all over Balochistan province including Quetta district from November 10, 2015.
According to the Provincial Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication and Immunization Balochistan, it is targeted to vaccinate 24,72,616 children below five years of age during the forthcoming immunization campaign in the province.
Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman told that all the necessary arrangements have been completed for the immunization campaign in Balochistan. As many as 6,603 mobile teams have been formed for the campaign, he mentioned adding that there would be 796 fixed teams in addition to 321 transit teams formed for the campaign all over the province.
Moreover, the anti-polio drops would also be administered to the children at 46 permanent transit points in the province, the Coordinator of EOC informed further.
As far the security arrangements, Dr. Saifur Rehman told that the Police, Levies Force and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel would perform the security responsibilities.
It is being ensured in collaboration with the concerned law enforcement agencies to make strict security measures for the campaign so that the health workers and volunteers may discharge their duties well with peace of mind.
We would also ensure to achieve the 100 percent target of immunization during the forthcoming campaign, the Coordinator pledged.
It may be mentioned here that in all six cases of polio have so far been reported in Balochistan with maximum three cases reported in Quetta district. While on the other hand, 12 cases of the polio had been reported last year (2014).
Meanwhile, the arrangements have already been started for the polio immunization campaign at the district level. The meetings are being held by the respective district administration and health officials to review the arrangements in this regard.
A meeting was held to review arrangements for the polio immunization campaign with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Izzat Nazir in the chair at Gwadar the other day.
Different matters regarding the anti-polio campaign were discussed during the meeting.
The District Health Officer, Dr. Akhtar Buledi, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Gwadar, Dr. Abdul Latif Dashti and other concerned attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Additional DC Revenue said that the anti-polio campaign would be launched effectively in Gwadar as elsewhere in the province and the country.
He mentioned that the government is determined to polio eradication from the province.
Earlier, the DHO Dr. Akhtar Buledi informed the meeting that the campaign would be launched from November 9 to 11 in Gwadar.
During the campaign, 43,582 children would be administered the anti-polio vaccine in Gwadar district, he briefed further.
