Govt. committed to provide better travelling facilities to people: Mandokhail

QUETTA: The Provincial Minister for Transport and Revenue, Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has stated that the present government is committed to provide better traveling facilities to the general public as it is its responsibility as well to do so.
This, he stated while chairing a meeting of the Transport department here the other day. The Chief Secretary, Saifullah Chattha, Commissioner Quetta Division, Kambar Dashti, Commissioner Kalat Division, Muhammad Akbar Harifal, Secretary Transport, Muhammad Khalid Baloch, Secretary Provincial Transport Authority, Abdul Khaliq Mandokhail, Commissioner Zhob Division, Fawad Rabbani, Commissioner Sibi Division, Ghulam Ali Baloch, besides other concerned high ups attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the matters pertaining to bring to an end to running of the buses of old model and improve their condition in light of the judgment of the court of law.
The Minister Transport maintained that the government is taking serious steps for provision of facilities to the passengers of all routes in the province.
He said that strict measures have been taken for motor vehicle examination and maintenance with the aim to bring marked improvement in overall condition of the transport.
The Minister Transport regretfully pointed out that the fitness certificates of the vehicles were issued to the transporters without following the desired criteria in the past. As a result, the buses of 1960, 1970 and 1980 models are plying on different routes of Quetta city causing issues of environment and traffic congestion on the roads, adding he mentioned.
Jaffar Mandokhail told the meeting that the ban has been imposed on running of buses of before 2008 model on the city roads in light of the court’s order.
Therefore, it is requested to the transporters to change their old buses with the new models as per the desired criteria within a month time.
Otherwise, their route permits would be cancelled and new permits would be issued to the transporters, he announced.
The Chief Secretary also addressed the meeting and referred to the steps taken by the government for bringing improvement in the transport sector.
