Secretaries urged to supervise polio immunization campaign

QUETTA: The Chief Secretary Balochistan, Saifullah Chattha has directed to secretaries of all the provincial government departments to supervise the forthcoming polio immunization campaign personally particularly in the areas where the desired results of the previous campaign were not achieved. He asked all the concerned to make the immunization campaign more effective finding the reasons behind not achieving the target during the last campaign.
Mr. Chattha was chairing the meeting held to review the preparations of the next anti-polio campaign in the province last week.
Those, who were in attendance, were included: Secretary Health, Noorul Haq Baloch, Secretary Education, Abdul Saboor Khan Kakar, Deputy Commissioner Zhob, Nazar Muhammad, Deputy Commissioner Killah Abdullah, Khuda-e-Dad Khan, representative of World Health Organization, Dr. Anwar Bugti, District Health Officer, Quetta, Dr. Shah Jahan Panezai, District Health Officer, Killa Abdullah, Dr. Sultan, Dr. Masood Khan, besides other concerned.
The polio immunization campaign is due to start from Tuesday (today) all over the province.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that although the arrangements made for the previous polio immunization campaign for satisfactory, yet we need to identify the reasons behind least coverage of routine immunization in the previous campaign, he maintained.
He said that polio is a fatal disease which can be prevented, so we should make sincere efforts in this regard.
Mr. Chattha also stressed the need to engage the teachers from Education department in the polio immunization campaign, if needed so in case of shortage of the staff.
As far the campaign, according to the Provincial Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center for Polio Eradication and Immunization Balochistan, it is targeted to vaccinate 24,72,616 children below five years of age during the forthcoming immunization campaign in the province.
Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman told that all the necessary arrangements have been completed for the immunization campaign in Balochistan. As many as 6,603 mobile teams have been formed for the campaign, he mentioned adding that there would be 796 fixed teams in addition to 321 transit teams formed for the campaign all over the province.
Moreover, the anti-polio drops would also be administered to the children at 46 permanent transit points in the province, the Coordinator of EOC informed further.
As far the security arrangements, Dr. Saifur Rehman told that the Police, Levies Force and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel would perform the security responsibilities.
It is being ensured in collaboration with the concerned law enforcement agencies to make strict security measures for the campaign so that the health workers and volunteers may discharge their duties well with peace of mind.
We would also ensure to achieve the 100 percent target of immunization during the forthcoming campaign, the EOC Coordinator pledged.
