QUETTA Jan 19 (PPI): Sui was meeting gas requirement of the country for a long time but no proper steps were taken for the development of Sui town and District Dera Bugti where people were deprived of water, gas and other basic facilities of life even today. There is need PPL, OGDCL and companies working in mineral sector should allocate funds for the welfare of local people and win their confidence.
This was stated by Balochistan chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri at his meeting with Managing Director Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Syed Wamiq Bukhari here Tuesday.
Chief Minister was briefed by PPL officials on ongoing and proposed projects and its performance exploration of oil and gas in Balochistan.
Besides PPL officials provincial ministers Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Shaikh Jaffar Mandokhel, Aslam Bizenjo, Sarfraz Bugti, Senator Shahbaz Durrani and MPAs Ghulam Dastgir Badini, Amanulah Notezai, PML-N Leader Jamal Shah Kakar and concerned secretaries were also present.
Chief Minister said on seeing present state of affairs of Sui it is disappointing where people are deprived of basic facilities of life during present days. He said companies benefitting from natural resources of Sui had utilize part of their profit for development of Sui and welfare of its people.
He said when this is the situation of Sui and Dera Bugti there is question when there will be gas discoveries in Khuzdar and Kharan and other districts would people there get gas or not.
Chief Minister said under 18 th amendment we are empowered for exploitation and development of natural resources in our provinces. It is our effort we should bring more and more investment in this field but PPL, OGDCL and other companies working this sector should be bound for welfare of local populace, providing them employment and training.
He said PPL should also take part in making Sui a model town while federal and provincial governments have allocated funds of their part.
Earlier MD PPL Wamiq Bukhari told that PPL has accorded special importance to Balochistan in its development projects during the current year. PPL has formed a special group. He aid four more wells will be dug in Sui during the year including one four thousand metres deep well to increase gas production. He said seismic survey for oil and gas exploration in Khuzdar, Lasbella, Khan, Hub and Barkhan has been completed and drilling would be started in Kharan, Bela and Khuzdar next year while drilling would start in Barkhan this year.
He told that there are vast opportunities of discovery of oil and gas in Balochistan and a comprehensive planning ahs been made to give it a practical shape.
He said three people form Balochistan has been appointed on administrative posts in company. Of 1200 untrained labour one thousand are locals while 250 are trained who are 33 percent locals.
MD PPL said according to directives of Chief Minister Company would undertake more projects for welfare of community besides ongoing projects completion.
He said domestic consumers were being supplied Rupees one million gas free of cost on daily basis while people were being provided drinking water by the company.
Nawab Zehri said that there exists joint venture between government of Balochistan and Balochistan Mining Enterprises a subsidiary of PPL since 1977 but its positive outcome was not being achieved. BME since long was mining barite in Khuzdar but company has not done any work for the development of the area.
MD PPL assured that BME capability would be enhanced.
