Official Website of the Independent Monitoring Unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department (www.imuhealthkp.gov.pk) was formally launched in in a ceremony held here on Friday.

Provincial Senior Minister for Health, Shahram Tarakai who was chief guest on the occasion pressed a computer key to formally launch the website displaying on it all the data so far collected by the IMU regarding government healthcare facilities ranging from primary to tertiary level hospital across the province.

Now onward all the real time data and reports of IMU regarding these healthcare facilities will readily be available on the website for public consumption.

Through the website the general public could not only have easy access to useful pieces of information about public sector hospitals but could also make online complaints to the high ups and give their suggestions for rectifying measures on the part of the government.

Besides Secretary Health M. Abid Majeed, Director General Health Services, Dr. Pervez Kamal Project Director IMU, Dr.Akhtar Saeed and other relevant quarters of the department the function was attended by media persons in large number.

The participants of the function were given detailed briefing regarding functions and progress of the IMU and told that so far the unit has made 16000 visits to various health service delivery outlets across the province, and based on factual data it compiles a comprehensive report about the healthcare facilities being provided in those outlets and the deficiencies found in them.

The participants were told that vigilant monitoring the attendance of staff, availability of medicines, medical equipments, electricity, water and other required facilities in public sector hospitals were the main functions of the IMU. It was told that based on the factual reports of IMU salaries were deducted of 320 officials, 1512 were served explanations, while the service of a number of them were terminated.

Due to the continuous and rigorous monitoring of IMU there has been a remarkable improvement in staff attendance of government hospitals. It was further informed that due to the effective monitoring of the field staff of EPI by the IMU, routine immunization in the province has improved a lot and the iMU is planning to provide android cell phones to the field staff for their android based online monitoring with the aim to ensure their presence in the field.

In his address to the participants the provincial minister for health termed the establishment of the IMU as a revolutionary step of his government to improve the health sector and said that IMU had proved to be an effective tool to ensure the staff attendance in government hospitals and thus improve service delivery in these hospitals.

“The real time data of IMU about the availability of facilities in hospitals has been very helpful in making timely decisions and rectifying measure by the government to ensure the provision of all the required facilities in these hospitals”, Shahram said and added that IMU will further be strengthened and its role expanded to ensure the provision of quality healthcare facilities to the public at their door steps.
