SC declares allotment, transfer of government property in Bahria Town illegal

KARACHI, May 4 (NNI): The allotment and transfer of government property has been declared illegal in Bahria Town Karachi.

A three-member Supreme Court bench heard the case in this connection. The Supreme Court directed the Bahria Town administration not to sell further plots in Bahria Town. However, construction work has not been stopped.

The SC has directed Sindh government to make an agreement with Bahria Town on new conditions.

It has also directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to collect all the details of the illegal agreement within three months and file references after completing the inquiry. An action will be then taken against the responsible persons.

Other than that, the Supreme Court directed the Karachi Registry registrar to open a special account and recover money from the allottees.

The allottees will be bound to deposit money in this account until a decision is taken by Sindh government. The decision on the payments will be taken if a new agreement is signed between Sindh government and Bahria Town in future. The Sindh government will be authorized to either allot land to Bahria Town or not.

Meanwhile, the chief justice has been asked to take a suo-motu notice on the allotment of land to Defence Housing Authority as well and decide about the matter. NNI
