High-level meeting reviews relief efforts for hquake victims

Islamabad, September 30 (Online): On the directions of the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Minister Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan chaired a high level meeting here to review the Balochistan Earthquake Relief work.

Chairman NDMA, DG ERRA , Chairman NADRA and senior officers of the PM Office attended the meeting.

Chairman NDMA informed the meeting that as per initial assessment 5,000 families are affected and around 125,000 houses are partially or completely damaged due to the Earthquake.

Pak Army, FC and Civilian Administration are working round the clock to distribute the relief goods. He further informed that the terrain of the area is very in-accessible and there are difficulties in reaching out to the affectees.

The meeting was informed that Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Balochistan Earthquake Affectees has been established and donations can be made to this fund in all scheduled Banks.

Moreover, a total of 09 Aid Collection Points in various cities have been established i.e. 05 in Karachi, 06 in Lahore, 01 each in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Quetta, where the general public can donate items.

Minister Interior, while briefing the media said that unfortunately 375 deaths and 815 injuries have been recorded so far. As per directions of the Prime Minister each and every household is to be reached out and in this regard initial supply of at least one month ration is to be delivered to each affected family.

Minister Interior further said that an estimated 18,000 food packs have been delivered at Awaran and almost the same number is en-route. There are medical teams on the ground with 52 Doctors, 71 paramedics and 41 Ambulances. China has donated 3,350 tents and 20,000 blankets along with generators, water purification plants and life saving drugs.

Minister Interior directed the Chairman NDMA, Chairman NADRA and DG ERRA to proceed to Balochistan and prepare a consolidated assessment and rehabilitation plan that would be presented immediately to Prime Minister on his return from abroad.
