Pakistan, Denmark sign US$50 million framework program

ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (Online): The Pakistan and Denmark have signed a framework program amounting to US$ 50 million to mark the start of a new program cycle, 2013-2016.

The signing ceremony was held at Economic Affairs Division where Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Jesper M. Sorensen, and Nargis Sethi, Secretary Economic Affairs Division signed the Framework on behalf of their Governments.

The Framework Program is an integral part of Denmark's engagement in Pakistan underpinning political dialogue and strengthening bilateral ties.

The program consists of two main components, first is Support to peace building, livelihoods and education in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and second is to Enhance democratisation, human rights and gender equality channelled through statutory bodies and civil society organizations.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that major part of the program is to support the ongoing programs where Pakistan already has ongoing agreements with international institutions, such as UNICEF and World Bank. Agreements will be made with the World Bank, UNICEF and reputable and registered Civil Society Organizations.

At this occasion, Secretary EAD appreciated the continued Danish cooperation for rehabilitation of crisis affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas, being in line with the present government policy of looking after the militancy affected and underdeveloped areas of Pakistan.

The Danish Ambassador appreciated the support of the Government of Pakistan and reiterated Denmark's commitment for enhanced bilateral relations through the development cooperation and other activities, including trade.
