CM Balochistan appeals to help quake-affected people

QUETTA, Sept 30 (Online): Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch has appealed to international community and philanthropists to help the quake-affected people of Balochistan in their rehabilitation.
Briefing the media in Awaran Monday‚ the Chief Minister said that relief activities in the quake-hit areas are going on in a smooth way. He said that efforts are underway to speed up the relief operations.
He said that tents and foods have been supplied to the affected people in the second phase. He said that the third phase of rehabilitation will be launched after the completion of the second phase.
He said that situation in the quake-affected areas of the province is under control. He said that the government will announce assistance for the quake affected people after making assessment of the damages.
Meanwhile the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has established Forward Operating Bases at Khuzdar and Bela for well planned and sustained logistic support for the earthquake affected people.
A spokesman of the authority said that these bases are functioning round the clock in coordination with the Army and District Administration.
NDMA has also deputed its officers at Awaran‚ Bela and Khuzdar to coordinate the relief activities with the District Administration and Army.
Besides sending relief items through road‚ NDMA is also coordinating C-130 and helicopter sorties for air dropping of food packs.
Balochistan Government has established a committee comprising of army‚ civil administration and notables of the affected areas for transparent distribution of relief goods to the affectees.
So far 12‚275 ration food packs‚ 16‚735 tents‚ 6‚160 blankets‚ 1‚700 plastic bags‚ 300 mosquito nets‚ 13‚900 water bottles and 3 tons of miscellaneous food items have reached to earthquake affected areas of Balochistan.
Meanwhile‚ National Disaster Management Authority's Member Operations‚ Brig. Kamran Zia visited Awaran where he was briefed about relief and rescue operations in the earthquake affected areas.
He‚ along with General Officer Commanding 33 Division Major General‚ Shamraiz‚ also visited the injured persons under treatment at district hospital of Awaran.
